Albums: Welcome

Welcome to the zerO One remix blog, where I'll try to keep you up to date with the latest happenings with this rather industrious project.

As you may know, October 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of the 1st zerO One release on the Waveform label. I'd originally planned to do a series of live performances to commemorate this event, but the plan was modified early 2008 when I was approached by a group called Mind Soup www.mind-soup.com offering to remix one of my old tracks.

What a great idea, I thought, to invite other artists to remix a track from the past and include these remixes on a retrospective CD. I've now approached a handful of artists, and all of them have been enthusiastic about participating in the project.

So, the plan is that at least half the tracks on an upcoming CD will be remixes created by other artists, the remaining mixes will be created by me.

Much of the equipment for this project had been in storage for quite some time, some of it since the year 2000. I've opened up the track "memOry" for public download. Just go to my Remix page, read and agree to the terms, download the parts, make your remix, then upload them to my site. All your remixes will be featured at my site. Who knows, maybe one of your remixes will make its way onto the upcoming remix CD.

I've been holding off on announcing a list of the artists that are doing remixes for this project, but I'm now far enough into it that I can begin to make some tentative announcements. Please keep in mind that these aren't set in stone....

In early August I was contacted by Steve Barsotti from the Art Institute in Seattle. They are holding a remix contest for their audio students, and he wondered if I'd be willing to contribute a track to the contest. This is exactly the kind of involvement I'm looking for in the remix project so, of course, I agreed. A number of Art Institute students are now working on remixes of "affirmative." All these remixes will be featured at my web site as they are submitted. Who knows, perhaps one of these will be perfect for inclusion on my remix CD.
